About
Laura is currently based in Paris, working as a photographic consultant.
Prior to this, she worked as a reporter for London-based financial magazine, Creditflux. She manages a team of site writers and commissions, edits and approves articles as female travel editor for gapyear.com. Working on commissions from UK papers, supplements and niche websites also keeps her busy.
Laura has specialised in travel and women’s writing for over four years. Her passion for journalism was ignited when she started writing for her university newspaper, The Sanctuary, as well as feminist contemplations for Artemis, the magazine spin-off of the Women’s Campaign, for which she was elected president in her final year.
Laura studied dual honours History and French at Nottingham University. She specialised in Russian revolutionary history, under Dr Sarah Badcock and obtained a first-class mark in this specialist subject. She speaks French and Spanish.
Originally from Manchester, but with her strong penchant for travel, Laura has lived, studied and worked in Los Angeles, USA; Buenos Aires, Argentina and Santa Cruz, Bolivia, as well as various UK cities. In June 2009, she jetted off for a four month trip around South America, furthering her Spanish and sampling traditions, sights and communities whilst working on photo-features. She blogged regularly about her adventures whilst there, and received commissions from The Independent, The Times Educational Supplement and Extra, Sunday supplement of Bolivian daily, El Deber.
She is a passionate feminist, vegetarian and equestrian. She is also a trustee and media representative for autism charity, Families Connected and ran a half marathon in October 2008, raising funds for Autistica.
